Das FEST music festival in Karlsruhe is one of Germany's biggest open-air events, attracting over 200,000 visitors. It has been held every year in late July since 1985 – on the last weekend before the start of the school holidays in Baden-Württemberg. If the atmosphere at FEST is on a par with Karlsruhe's famously good weather, it's probably due in part to the concept behind the festival, which really does aim to appeal to everyone and puts child-friendliness high on the agenda.
