Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre steps up as training ground for hospitality students

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has welcomed its first intake from the Taylor’s University School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts’ (TCHT) Student Employment Programme or STEP. 

A collaborative effort between the Centre and Taylor’s University, STEP aims to provide participating students with an overall understanding of the industry, the current environment and what it entails to work in it while simultaneously garnering invaluable work experience to add to their curriculum vitae or CV.

TMIF Keynote speaker addresses 'Asean Economic Community - Double Impact'

In the TMIF keynote address, Mr Phongsak Assakul, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand, addressed the theme, “Asean Economic Community (AEC): Double Impact on the Economic Development and MICE Industry.”

As Asean moves toward making national boundaries less important and boosting the free flow of trade, goods, capital, labour and services, Mr Phongsak told the audience not to just look at the bright side of AEC.

A large measure of Asean economic integration known as Asean Economic Community (AEC) is scheduled for 2015 among the 10 main countries of Southeast Asia. How will this impact the exhibition industry?

UIA Congress Ranking: Vienna again in 4th place world-wide in 2011

The statistics on international congresses in 2011 just published by the Union of International Associations (UIA) once again - like the year before - rank Vienna in fourth place worldwide.

The first four places in the UIA 2011 statistics remained unchanged compared to 2010: the table was once again headed by Singapore, which achieved 919 international congresses according to the UIA criteria, followed by Brussels (464), Paris (336) and Vienna (286).

London tops the list for European business investment, according to Ernst & Young

London has triumphed as the European capital of business once again after it came top of the list in Europe for inward investment for the sixth time running, according to Ernst & Young’s European Investment Monitor. Not only attracting more projects than any other city in Europe, London also enticed more projects than all but four countries, holding its position as the most attractive destination for launching a foreign investment presence in Europe with a 13% increase on 2010 figures. As well as being the chief city for the number of projects established, London also continues to lead the way in job creation from foreign direct investment (FDI), beating every other city in Europe.
