ACC Liverpool Adopts Industry eGuide

ACC Liverpool has become the latest venue to adopt the industry recognised eGuide.

The guidance document, created by members of the Association of Event Venues (AEV), aims to provide consistent standards for health, safety and operations at UK exhibitions and conference venues.

ACC Liverpool joins other UK venues in adopting the regulating policy including Excel London, The NEC Group and Manchester Central.

Ireland Means Business in Germany

Seventeen tourism companies from around the island of Ireland were in Germany last week to attend IMEX, the annual business tourism exhibition in Frankfurt.

IMEX (International Meetings and Events Exhibition) is a key event for the MICE (meetings, incentive, conferences and events) industry. Attracting about 3,500 influential business tourism buyers from 150 different countries, the event offered very good opportunities for the participating tourism partners to showcase their product and to communicate what is unique about the island of Ireland as a conference and business tourism destination.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre contributed to Malaysia's and Kuala Lumpur's better ranking in 2011

Strange sightings on the Mississippi gulf coast

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is asking summer visitors for help finding the cause of mysterious footprints seen along the 62 miles of coastline from Bay St. Louis/Waveland to Pascagoula. Search efforts will officially begin on Friday, June 1.

“We’ve decided to call the mystery creature ‘Beachfoot’ because of the large footprints left along the sandy white beaches,” said Beth Carriere, executive director of the CVB

Record demand for Copenhagen as a congress city

The number of congresses which Wonderful Copenhagen CVB has won for the Danish capital to date exceeds the previous record result from the same period last year. 

So far this year, Wonderful Copenhagen CVB - in close co-operation with, among others, VisitDenmark and the business tourism network, Meetingplace Wonderful Copenhagen - has won 24 international congresses which, together, will bring 31,480 participants and 107,560 room nights to Copenhagen in the coming years.

Business Travel Forums Spring 2012 achieved an impressive average of 15 enquiries placed by each buyer to suppliers present at the event. Buyers attending the Forums were pre-screened to ensure a high calibre, with an average purchasing budget for events of €8.3 million. 85% of buyers were direct corporates with the remaining number hailing from travel management companies. Events industry breaks its own record: 338 million participants in 2011

The German event industry has concluded the year 2011 with record results: 2.72 million events took place and were visited by 338 million participants throughout Germany. Compared to 2010, which had already been a very positive year, the number of visitors grew by another 4.5 percent. The number of events increased by 1.2 percent, the proportion of foreign participants remained stable at 5.9 percent (increase of 0.1 percent).

City & Guilds has appointed leading venue sourcing agency Conference Care preferred supplier status for Venue Finding Management Services. The scope of contract encompasses all City & Guilds’ departments and has been awarded for three years.

Invitation to tender for the provision of venue sourcing services was undertaken by City & Guilds in the Summer of 2011. Having undergone a rigorous selection process Conference Care was taken to final stages and presented to a panel consisting of City & Guilds Event, Procurement and Finance teams. The appointment was made in early 2012, with the contract going live in April.

Melbourne Number One in Australia for International Conventions

Melbourne has officially been recognised as the number one city in Australia for conferences and congresses, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher announced recently.

The Country and City Ranking Report 2011, produced by The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), saw Melbourne ranked ahead of any other Australian city at number 31 in the world, nine places up on the previous year.

Liverpool Experiences Four-Fold Increase In International Conferences

The number of international conferencesbeing held in Liverpool has increased four-fold in the past year, figures have revealed.

In 2011, the city hostedsix such events in venues across the regioncompared to 26 confirmed for this year.

The number of international delegates increased from 2,800 last year to a total of 9,280 expected this year.

Melbourne bags the rights to host Harvard World Model United Nations Conference in 2013

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher announced that the Harvard World Model United Nations Conference 2013 (WorldMUN), one of the world’s largest student-led international meetings, will be held in Melbourne next year.

Ms Asher said Melbourne fended off competition from Spain, France and Turkey to host the event, which was expected to bring approximately 1700 delegates from around the world to Melbourne.

“This is a coup for Victoria and is expected to generate more than $8 million for the state economy,” Ms Asher said.
